the post with monkeys

IMG_9413.jpgIt seems the little guys are a big attraction for friends and so I think they deserve a post only for them.

The monkey temple in Jaipur has a few very funny and expressive little guys, who are a joy to photograph. Watching them crack and eat the peanuts tourists throw them, “meditating” perched on walls or even diving in a local pool – one can see how we are related to them.

around Jaipur

Besides Amber fort, Jaipur has a lot of other places to visit. Even a simple stroll in the markets can provide a lot of photo opportunities. And visiting the city palace, the astronomical (or astrological) observatory, the monkey and sun temples and countless other gems can fill a few days.

Jaipur – the Amber fort

IMG_8596.jpgLike all first timers in India, after Delhi and Agra I moved to Jaipur. This city can best be described as a paradise for photographers. Temples, palaces and forts all compete for every hour of the day, for every photo.

From the Amber fort (most of today’s photos are from there), Nahargarh fort to Jantar Matar (where I looked a lot for my Capricorn building…) and Hawa Mahal – Jaipur is the most amazing city I visited in India. Even on my next trip I would like to spend 1 or 2 days here. The downside to so many monuments to fit in a tight time frame (2 days) is that I ran a lot inside the palaces and forts. More so as the first day was “wasted” on Holi – most of the monuments are closed, and walking the streets is somewhat fraught with peril.

Here is a short gallery with photos from the Amber fort.

Taj Mahal and Agra

IMG_8150.jpgIndia for a lot of travelers means Delhi – Agra – Jaipur. And for a first visit to India, that’s how I started. After the crazy streets of Delhi I moved to Agra – and visited the main attraction there – the famous Taj Mahal.

The visit started pretty bad. First I had a price sticker shock – 750 rupees for entry, the largest entry fee I encountered. But things got worse when I was not allowed to the Taj because I had Holi paint on my face. So after queuing and passing the security check, I had to go and wash the paint. And getting rid of Holi colors is not easy. But when I was asked again to get rid of the party look – it seemed I was not serious enough for the Taj Mahal – I became quite annoyed. Half an hour spent running, queuing, getting my bag checked is not a fun experience.

But all bad feelings passed when I finally saw the Taj Mahal.

streets and sights of Delhi

From street sellers to construction workers, barbers and tuk-tuk drivers and people of all imaginable faiths Delhi is an amazing show. I wished for a camera that could record every angle, every second, every face and every situation. Didn’t have this theoretic camera yet I still managed to capture I hope some of the magic of Delhi.

This photo gallery concentrates on only one day (actually half a day) spent in Delhi, from noon to early evening.
