goodbye to summer

Officially the summer is over since September 1st. However, only today really feels like autumn is here. Rain – clouds – sleeping late – umbrellas. Yet the biggest change is that weekends no longer mean going to the seaside. Probably until next year it’s goodbye beach life. This train of thought made me browse some of the older photos, and I found a set from Sri Lanka which I haven’t published yet. So – that’s the reason (if I need one) to post this image.

photos from the imperial palaces in Kyoto

For a photographer visiting the imperial palaces and gardens in Kyoto is like Santa Claus coming early. Not to mention that visiting these attractions is free – which in Japan is a good thing.

I took hundreds of pictures – the architecture of the palaces, and the contrast they make with the surrounding gardens give endless opportunities for shooting.

Japan by train

IMG_3321.jpgIs an experience in itself. Once I passed the wallet shock of the Japan Rail Pass, I started to see the nice things it can do.

Most destinations are accessible by train – already went to Mount Fuji (Fuji-san) and castle Matsumoto (impressive Japanese fortification) but maybe more importantly by Japan Rail (JR) we can move around Tokyo pretty easily.

IMG_3327.jpgEven though the network is not so vast as the metro, still most of the areas are accessible by rail.Akihabara, Shabuya, Shinjuku, Ueno and other areas are all connected by (different) rail lines. And going by rail (I assume the same is also for the subway) I can do a lot of people watching.

Every train ride is an adventure in itself, and not because of the chance of going in the wrong direction but because if the variety of people on the train.
