And so, the story continues. Some people asked me how I manage with my new shiny toy – the iPhone 3G. Well, after being unconvinced that the iPhone is a good phone for such a long time, I have to finally accept the fact that I’m a convert.
I slowly start to become a fanboy. The fact that I have unlimited data plan sure helps (as I can use any feature and test any application), but the truth is that the ease of use is amazing.
I will try to post a short review with the things I like, focusing on things different from Windows Mobile gadgets I’m used to.
The good:
- things just “happen” – the data connectivity, or wifi, is hidden from the user
- having “push” everything with no hassle is amazing – I keep my iPhone configured to check every half hour for new mails
- Safari beats Opera which beats Internet Explorer – sorry but that is not even a contest
- having a Youtube widget raised my eyebrow a bit, but the integration between Safari (and widgets based on Safari) with the Youtube browser is so good it’s not inconvenient switching
- having a central place from which to download applications – free or paid – is very nice
- texting is done in a very pleasant way (it’s conversation based) and the keyboard is amazingly easy to get used to
- the weather widget is funĀ – an easy to use and setup central place where I can graphically see the weather in the cities I’m interested
- facebook, wordpress, skype and urbee – the applications I cannot live without – are a joy to use compared to their equivalent in Windows world
- and the biggest improvement – I no longer have to worry about running programs, diminishing memory, task managers or a microscopic start menu
The bad:
- I cannot easily sync with more than 1 PC
- I did not (yet) found an equivalent to Microsoft Reader (book library and reader)
- it is harder to setup custom ring tones
- maybe some other shortcomings will reveal themselves in the coming months – until then….that’s about it
So yes, I am extremely happy with the new toy. I cannot wait to customize and tweak it more.

When I saw the previous post (I admit, I only looked at the pictures) I thought that it was another back-post from the trip to Spain.
Jailbreak FTW.
for the moment, no more back-posts from Spain :p
maybe one, and some reviews for hostels and websites…
as for jailbreaking – MAYBE I will consider it after the 3.0 OS version (which incidentally will add most of the functionality touted as reason for jailbreaking…)
